Introduction into Scoring Types in Accept Mission

Updated over a week ago

In the pursuit of driving innovation, scoring ideas effectively is key to identifying and prioritizing the most promising concepts. With Accept Mission’s latest update, users now have greater flexibility in evaluating ideas within their funnels. Previously, the platform offered a standard scale scoring system ranging from 0 to 10. With this update, we’ve introduced new scoring types: Star Rating (0-5), Low/Medium/High, and Custom Scoring with configurable buttons and options. These enhancements empower teams to tailor their scoring process to align with their specific needs and preferences, ensuring a more intuitive and effective evaluation of innovative ideas. Additionally, our parent and child score relationship feature calculates parent scores as the average of their associated child scores, streamlining the overall scoring process within projects and ideas.

Creating New Scores

To create new scores in the Accept Mission Innovation Studio:

  1. Navigate to Innovation Studio > Settings > Score Management.

  2. Click on the Add New Score button.

  3. Choose your desired scoring type:

    • Scale Scoring (0-10): Use a numeric scale to rate ideas, with 0 as the lowest and 10 as the highest.

    • Star Rating (0-5): Assign a star rating, ideal for quick evaluations.

    • Low/Medium/High: Classify ideas based on qualitative assessments.

    • Custom Scoring: Create your own scoring system with configurable buttons and options (e.g., Excellent, Good, Average).

  4. Assign a name and description to the score for clarity.

  5. Save your changes to make the new score type available for use.

Example: Create a Custom Scoring type with buttons labeled "High Impact," "Moderate Impact," and "Low Impact" to evaluate the potential influence of ideas on business goals.

Updating Existing Scores

To update existing scores:

  1. Navigate to Innovation Studio > Settings > Score Management.

  2. Locate the score you want to update from the list.

  3. Click on the Edit icon next to the score.

  4. Modify the scoring type, labels, or descriptions as needed.

  5. Save your changes to apply the updates.

Example: Change a Scale Scoring type (0-10) to a Star Rating (0-5) for simplicity and better user engagement.

Understanding Scoring Types

1. Scale Scoring (0-10)

This traditional numeric scale allows detailed evaluations of ideas.

  • Example: Rate an idea for feasibility: 0 (Not Feasible) to 10 (Highly Feasible).

2. Star Rating (0-5)

A simpler, visually appealing way to score ideas.

  • Example: Rate customer appeal of an idea with 1 star (Low Appeal) to 5 stars (High Appeal).

3. Low/Medium/High

Classify ideas into broad qualitative categories.

  • Example: Assess market readiness: Low (Not Ready), Medium (Somewhat Ready), High (Market Ready).

4. Custom Scoring

Fully configurable scoring with tailored options.

  • Example: Use buttons like “Critical Priority,” “Important,” and “Optional” to evaluate strategic alignment.

Parent and Child Scores

Parent scores represent the average of their associated child scores, providing a consolidated evaluation. This calculation is applied directly within an idea or project object.

Example: In a project with three child scores—"Feasibility" (8), "Customer Appeal" (7), and "Market Readiness" (9)—the parent score would be calculated as (8+7+9)/3 = 8. This parent score provides a holistic view of the idea’s overall potential.

With these updated scoring options, Accept Mission enables users to adopt a scoring approach that best fits their innovation strategies. Whether you're conducting detailed evaluations or seeking a quick overview, these tools will help your team focus on what matters most: turning great ideas into impactful solutions.
