How to track time within Projects

Updated this week

Time tracking is an insightful feature in Accept Mission that helps users manage and monitor the duration of their projects effectively. This guide will walk you through the steps to assign and track time in your projects, and explain the benefits of using time tracking for your innovation projects.

1. Introduction to Time Tracking

Time tracking allows you to assign a duration to your projects and tasks, helping you stay on schedule and manage resources efficiently. By tracking time, you can gain insights into how much time is spent on various tasks and ensure that projects are completed within the allocated time frame.

2. Assigning Total Time to a Project

To assign the total time for a project:

  1. Open the project in the Innovation Studio.

  2. You can assign the total time connected to the project in the Admin block on the right side.

3. Tracking Time per Task

For each task within the project:

  1. Navigate to the Tasks tab.

  2. Fill in the time you have spent on the task and the estimated time.

  3. The time tracker in the Admin block will calculate the total spent time and show you how much time is left for the project.

4. Viewing Time Reports

Time fields are available in all reports to provide insights into your project’s progress. Additionally, the OData connector (API) can be used with Power BI to build detailed reports and visualize your data.

5. Example Use Case: Innovation Project

Imagine you are managing an innovation project aimed at developing a new product. Here’s how you can use time tracking:

  • Project Setup: Assign a total duration of 200 hours for the project.

  • Task Management: Break down the project into tasks such as research, development, testing, and marketing. Assign estimated times for each task.

  • Time Tracking: As team members work on tasks, they log the time spent. For example, if the research task is estimated to take 50 hours, team members log their hours daily.

  • Monitoring Progress: The time tracker shows that 30 hours have been spent on research, leaving 20 hours remaining. This helps you adjust resources and timelines as needed.

6. Benefits of Time Tracking for Innovation Projects

  • Resource Management: Allocate resources more effectively by understanding how time is spent.

  • Budget Control: Keep projects within budget by monitoring time and associated costs.

  • Improved Planning: Use historical data to plan future projects more accurately.

  • Increased Accountability: Ensure team members are accountable for their time, leading to higher productivity.

By incorporating time tracking into your innovation projects, you can enhance efficiency, meet deadlines, and achieve your project goals more effectively.
